Monnit Launches the ALTA Wireless Resistive Bridge Meter

New ALTA Resistive Bridge Meter

Connect to Wheatstone and Other Analog Bridge Circuits to Measure Strain, Force, and More Physical Properties

SALT LAKE CITY—June 12, 2024—Monnit announced today the release of its ALTA® Wireless Resistive Bridge Meter to excite and measure the ratiometric voltage output of Wheatstone bridge circuits to determine physical variables, such as strain, force, pressure, displacement, incline, and torque.

The new ALTA Resistive Bridge Meter excites a resistor bridge and measures the voltage across its 3-foot, four-wire lead to report in millivolts per volt (mV/V). Its key features include:

  • Supplies up to 2.0V excitation
  • Resolution: 24-bit or down to 0.00001 mV/V
  • Accuracy: down to 0.0002 mV/V
  • Measures both positive and negative percentages
  • Programmable gain: 1X to 128X
  • Optional 50 Hz and 60 Hz filters
  • Reports additional temperature measurement

"It's exciting to manufacture another sensor that our customers requested so they can collect valuable data," said Monnit Founder and CEO Brad Walters. "There are many applications where the ALTA Resistive Bridge Meter will provide precise resistance measurements, critical to predictable and productive operations. High-precision manufacturing, scientific research, automotive, aerospace and defense, construction, industrial automation, medical products, and robotics—we're happy to help people in these and many other industries."

Some example use cases of the ALTA Resistive Bridge Meter include:

  • Measures quarter, diagonal, half, and full-bridge (Wheatstone) configurations.
  • Monitors strain gauges and inclinometers.
  • Detects resistive bridge voltage to calculate physical properties like force, pressure, displacement, incline, and torque.

More About How the Meter Works

The ALTA Resistive Bridge Meter uses two wires, red(1) and black(4), to excite a resistor bridge, thus providing a reference voltage for the measurement. Two additional wires, white(2) and yellow(3), measure the differential voltage across this bridge in mV/V.

The measurements are sent to an ALTA® or ALTA XL® Gateway. Then, the data is available for calculation and graphical analysis in iMonnit Software or other approved data services. You can set thresholds so that when the output gets above or below them, text, email, or voice call alerts are immediately sent to authorized personnel.

This meter contains a Programmable Gain Amplifier (PGA) and can be set to values between 1X and 128X, increasing the measurement's resolution and reducing measurement error. The 50 and 60 Hz filters are also programmable.

Connect to Nearly Anything Virtually Anywhere

Like all ALTA Sensors, the new ALTA Resistive Bridge Meter excels with a long-range wireless radio frequency range of 2,000+ feet (non-line-of-sight) through more than 18+ walls in a building and a one-mile line of sight when paired with an ALTA XL IoT or Ethernet Gateway.
